The Harlem Valley Compassion Connection, Inc is a registered 501(c)(3) Charitable Organization. We were formed for the purpose of assisting low-to-moderate income families who live in the Harlem Valley of New York, specifically those who reside within the Town of Dover and the Town of Amenia.
Our outreach is typically done through the following:
We envision a world and society where at the very least everyone's basic needs are met; where we help each other without shame; where we preserve the dignity of the families and our community members who are in need this time. Our community is beautifully diverse, and each of us work to make sure that everyone is included. We do not discriminate based on age, income, education, sex, gender, ability, or disability.
One beautiful thing about living in a "small town" community is the way that everyone comes together when there is a need to fill. Our backgrounds are diverse, but we all come together when it is important. Everyone matters. No one is "more than" or "less than". Our younger citizens deserve to have peace of mind that they have adequate school supplies so that they can concentrate on learning. Every one of us takes a turn being giver and recipient during our lives. We are all volunteers who are passionate about helping from a place of love and compassion.
Our Wingdale/Dover/Wassaic/Amenia communities are AMAZING! We cannot do what we do without your support, and every year, members of our community step up to help us help our community. It is our responsibility to care for one another and the communities we live in.
"If you see a need, fill it." -Cindy Snow-Pitts
We have seen a dramatic increase in the financial struggles of the families in our community since we first began as two small projects. In order to meet these needs, we have chosen to "build a bigger table." By expanding beyond a group of friends and volunteers and becoming a Non-Profit Charitable Organization, we are building a more solid fundraising and outreach platform so that we are in a better position to help our community.
Cindy Snow-Pitts was the amazing woman who started and maintained several of our outreach initiatives as well as many more. Cindy collaborated with the Stone Church Grange, the Center of Compassion, and Solutions for a Better Dover to provide the children in our community with school supplies in the Summer and gifts at the holidays. She was the heart and soul of the School Supply Drive and the Holiday Toy Drive. Most of our current team of volunteers worked on projects with her in one capacity or another, and she remains the original inspiration of why we do what we do.
Harlem Valley Compassion Connection, Inc is committed to equitable treatment and the elimination of discrimination when servicing all our recipients. We believe in creating an environment that embraces all.
We are also committed to diversity in all staff, volunteers and board members, providing a safe, respectful workplace for all our members.
